Guide to ESO’s Accessibility Options

The Elder Scrolls Online offers a wide range of accessibility options for both console and PC/Mac players to utilize when exploring Tamriel. Here you can find an outline of all the accessibility options available from the in-game help menus and instructions on how to access them.

Help Menu Accessibility Options

You can access the following Help menu options by logging into a character. Then navigate to the Help menu by pressing F1 on your keyboard if on PC/Mac or by pressing the “Start” or “Options” button on your controller and navigating down to the Help submenu if playing on console.

  • Get Me Unstuck—This option attempts to teleport you to a wayshrine if you are currently stuck in the world.
  • Tutorials—You can review detailed tutorial information related to game mechanics with this option.

Settings Menus Accessibility Options

You can access settings menu options from the ESO login screen by selecting Settings (labeled “Options” on consoles). Additionally, while in game, you can get to these settings by pressing ESC on your keyboard if on PC/Mac or by pressing the “Start” or “Options” button on your controller if playing on console. You can then select Settings and navigate to the following submenus.

Video Menu

  • Text Size Scaling—Size scaling for interface, windows, and heads-up display.

Audio Menu

  • NPC Subtitles—Enables or disables NPC subtitles (off by default).
  • Video Subtitles—Enables or disables video subtitles (on by default).
  • Volume—Various volume adjustments available for Master volume, Music, Ambience (ambient environmental sounds), Effects (sound effects), interface, cinematics, dialogue, and footsteps.
  • Combat Music—Combat music frequency can be set to play for all combat, bosses only, or turned off.

Gameplay Menu

  • Controller Input Templates—Console setting only. Three templates are available for controller settings that change inputs for the bindings on D-pad, face buttons, and/or right stick press. A larger set of options for remapping is available in the Controls menu
  • Controller Vibration—Enables or disables controller vibration.
  • Combat Cue Customization—Custom colors are available for friendly and enemy combat cues. Modifies the color and brightness of enemy and friendly combat ground effects.
  • Accidental Targeting—Enables settings to prevent attacking innocents and prevent stealing placed items. This allows players to avoid unintentional bounties by targeting friendly NPCs or items that can be stolen.
  • Quick Cast Ground Abilities—Allows for easier casting of ground abilities.
  • Companion Ultimate Auto Cast—Allows the companion ultimate to either automatically cast or be controlled by the player.
  • Looting—Consolidate Area Loot and Auto Loot options are available.
  • Gamepad Mode Support—Gamepad mode on PC/Mac with keyboard includes pregame screens.
  • Gamepad UI Navigation with Keyboard Controls—PC setting only. Allows for a digital-only way to access and navigate ESO’s UI screens and menus.

Controls Menu

  • Control Remapping—PC setting only. Most controls are available for remapping. This includes rebinding for movement, combat, targeting, user interface, and the Housing system.

Camera Menu

  • Invert Y—Inverts Y-Axis for controllers.
  • Assassination Camera—Enables or disables cinematic kill camera during assassinations.
  • Screen Shake—Allows screen shake to be adjusted with a slider.
  • Camera Sensitivity—Allows camera sensitivity to be adjusted with a slider.
  • First Person FOV—Allows first person FOV to be adjusted with a slider.
  • First Person Head Bob—Allows First Person Head Bob to be adjusted with a slider.

Interface Menu

  • Enable or disable various interface elements and icons.
  • Chat Bubble Customization—Enables and customizes chat bubbles above a players’ head when they are speaking.

Social Menu

  • Chat Settings—Chat Settings allow for adjusting the text size, HUD chat display, and profanity filter.
  • Notifications—Enables or disables several social notification types.
  • Chat Color—Modifies various chat color options.

Nameplate Menu

  • Nameplates—Enables or disables various nameplate elements above creatures, NPCs, and players.
  • Health Bar Elements—Modifies or disables various health bar elements above creatures, NPCs, and players.
  • Indicators—Modifies or disables various indicators, including glow on target and interactable items.

Combat Menu

  • Ability Bar Display—Adjust the display of the ability bar between automatic, always show, or don’t show.
  • Ability Bar—Ability timers can be enabled or disabled.
  • Attribute Bars—Adjust the display of the attribute bar between automatic, always show, or don’t show.
  • Active Combat Tips—Adjust the display of the active combat tips between automatic, always show, or don’t show.
  • Combat Text—Enables and modifies combat text elements, including damage and healing amounts displayed.
  • Buffs and Debuff Display—Enables and modifies buffs and debuff displays.

Accessibility Menu

  • Accessibility Mode—Puts user in gamepad UI and adjusts settings. Also presented in pregame screen.
  • Narrate Chat—Can be set while Accessibility Mode is enabled. While enabled, chat text will be spoken back with a rendered voice.
  • Narrate Zone Chat—Can be set while Narrate Chat is enabled. While enabled, all zone chat will be spoken back with a rendered voice.
  • Screen Narration—Can be set while Accessibility Mode is enabled. While enabled, the contents of menu screens will be narrated while you navigate them.
  • Voice Volume—Can be set while Accessibility Mode is enabled. Controls the volume of the synthesized voice used in screen and chat narration.
  • Voice Speed—Can be set while Accessibility Mode is enabled. Sets the talking speed of narration.
  • Voice Type—Can be set while Accessibility Mode is enabled. Sets the type of voice used for narration.
  • Arcanist Aim Assist—Aim assist options for Arcanist skills are present for both gamepad and mouse. Each can be adjusted separately.
