ESO’s 10-Year Anniversary Celebration is in full swing, including unique promotions, rewards, and special in-person events. One of the highlights includes this incredible diorama showcasing various Tamrielic locales, first unveiled at our kickoff event in Amsterdam in early April.

You can check out photos of the diorama in Amsterdam below, but don’t worry, you’ll be able to see it in person at future 10-Year Celebration events, too—keep an eye out for it!

The White-Gold Tower is central to Tamriel

The planning and creation of the diorama was a months-long endeavor, with initial talks to begin the process starting in November 2023. The final design was provided by Audrey Scharrer, a Concept Artist at ZOS, at which point the team at ArtiDex began a six-week-long building process.

“We tried to stick to typical modeling techniques and use popular materials such as Styrofoam, wood, PCV, all kind of sprinkles, woods, and decorations,” explains Dawid “Dexter” Smelczysz, leader of the ArtiDex team. “We also did refer to the most modern technique which is the 3D print. It was a real lifesaver at times!”

A painstaking process of creation

ArtiDex and ZOS were not the only contributors to the completed diorama, and the final product contained a mix of existing miniatures and unique handcrafted additions.

“Many of the ready figurines you can see at the diorama came from the great Modiphius team, and we simply glued them together and painted,” explains Dexter and the ArtiDex team. “We also used some existing model trees, except for Elden Root—it was made by us with its trunk printed in 3D and upper branches made entirely by hand using Styrofoam and natural reindeer moss.”

“3D printing was also essential for the White-Gold Tower and Dwarven Ruins, but most of the smaller objects and terrain shape were made by hand. It is also worth highlighting that two of the biggest pieces on the diorama, the Mournhold and Wayrest castles, are entirely made and painted by hand.”

Tamriel’s towns and towers brought to life

Because of all this hard work, the reaction to the diorama’s unveiling was a gratifying experience for the team.

“It was a huge, positive surprise,” says Dexter. “The diorama started to bring in a lot of people from the very beginning—even before it was fully assembled, as even our staff, volunteers, and people from the team were coming by to take photos and ask questions.”

“All in all, this project was a huge challenge, and we had a healthy dose of worries concerning how the ESO fans would react to the final result. This was a special opportunity, not only because people from all around the world came to Amsterdam, but also because they all knew Tamriel better than the back of their hands! In the end, we heard many kind words at the event and saw many positive comments online, so I assume we did our job well!”

Displays of locales pristine and profane

Don’t forget, you may be able to see this incredible creation yourself at future 10-Year Anniversary Celebration in-person events.
