Community Spotlight—Nine_Tale_Fox and MrsNineTales

11/17/2023

Stream Team Members Nine_Tale_Fox and MrsNineTales are a couple who stream ESO together. They have extensive journeys in Tamriel—despite the names, probably even more than nine tales’ worth!

Longtime ESO players Nine_Tale_Fox and MrsNineTales have built a community around their time together in Tamriel. They’ve been a part of the #ESOFam since some of the game’s earliest days and started sharing their experiences a few years ago. Now they co-stream, lead a guild together, publish guides, and share news about the game. Today, they’ve agreed to tell us all a little about themselves.

Tell us about your ESO experience. You’ve been playing since launch and even Beta—what feels like the most dramatic change to the game since then?

MrsNineTales: Oh, definitely One Tamriel.

Nine_Tale_Fox: Agreed, One Tamriel really opened up the map and created that “play the way you want” environment. Knowing you weren’t limited, within reason, to grinding through any one particular zone allowed more players to choose their own path and interests.

MrsNineTales: Yeah, being able to play with your friends regardless of level was a big win.

How did the two of you get started making content, and what inspired your co-streaming setup?

Nine_Tale_Fox: Picture it: Pandemic, May 2020 …I was locked down in my home, a newborn in hand, and my PTSD from my time in the military was starting to take its toll. We discovered Twitch for the first time thanks to a Facebook ad for Greymoor Twitch Drops. One of the Stream Team members, Dooma (now known as The_Gameroom) was talking about streaming and told someone to “just go for it, what’s the worst that can happen?” With the Mrs.’ encouragement, I just went for it and not long after the community requested, nay demanded—*laughs*—that the Mrs., who was just a disembodied voice at the time, be a full-time part of the stream.

What's the most rewarding aspect of working together to create ESO content?

MrsNineTales: It’s our “us” time. I work full time, we’re parents, I have two major volunteer roles, and we stream. We don’t always have a lot of time to spend together so we enjoy these moments where we do get to hang out.

Nine_Tale_Fox: Yeah, streaming is our chance for us to sit down and do something together that we’ve been doing since we first started dating. That’s actually how we remember how long we’ve been together. We started dating a couple weeks before ESO came out, and it was the first thing we started doing as a couple.

Do you have any advice for others considering co-streaming?

MrsNineTales: Set your boundaries between streamer time and couple time. It’s easy to drag streaming into every free minute of the day because you do it together, but you also need time to NOT talk about streaming.

Nine_Tale_Fox: Figure out a set-up that works for you and your space. There are a ton of ways to do a co-stream, so find what feels comfortable. We’re always happy to walk through how we do our stream.

What is one of your favorite in-game moments? Is there one for each of you, or a moment that stands out to you both?

MrsNineTales: Our favorite memories over the years have been our “proud parent” moments. We have watched so many guildies come in as new players; we take them, terrified, into their first group content, then into their first Veteran content, and then we watch them shoot up with so much confidence. We have players that started the game doing 3k DPS that are now running trifecta content and going on to great things. For our more casual players, it is the moments where they go from “I’m new and need help” to jumping in the Discord and helping others. Watching players build their confidence with us has just been so incredible.

You often do recaps of ESO news. Were there any stories you remember hearing about that really got you excited to share them with the community when you found out?

MrsNineTales: The sticker book is probably the one I was most excited to recap and talk about. ESO players know inventory management is the real endgame, so people being able to deconstruct coffers and coffers of gear they held onto “just in case” was huge!

Nine_Tale_Fox: The sticker book was definitely a game changer, but for me it was the recent addition of the Grand Master crafting tables. As a GM, I have so much more room for activities now.

With your own active guild in addition to your streamed content for the larger community, you provide a lot of resources to the ESO community. What recommendations do you have for those looking to pass it on, or who might want to set up community resources of their own?

Nine_Tale_Fox: We are always telling people it is impossible to know everything all the time, especially in a game this large. Knowing where to get the answers can be just as powerful as knowing what the answers are. Also, if you do reference someone else's hard work, be sure to give credit where credit is due.

MrsNineTales: Agree! Many platforms have a lot of great announcement feeds where you can subscribe to other Discords, bots, or website feeds. We have several other creators that subscribe to our Discord announcements feed, which is great! Work smarter, not harder.

How important is it for you both to teach and create positive experiences for your guild members and communities?

MrsNineTales: We’ve heard many stories of players having bad experiences in games and walking away altogether. We don’t want that for anyone. This game changed our lives in such a positive way and we want that for others.

Nine_Tale_Fox: There is a lot of different “end-game” content people can do in ESO; ours just happens to be helping people navigate the game to find theirs and helping them love the game as much as we do. We don’t want people to be afraid to try content and/or new roles. Having a place you can do that makes a huge impact on building that confidence and bonding with the community.

Your dog, Mara Kyne, is named after figures from ESO lore. What drew you to those characters in particular for the adorable pup?

Nine_Tale_Fox: Mara is the goddess of love and Kyne is the mother of men and beasts in ESO. We couldn’t think of anything better to describe our loving pup who most certainly rules over this house. *laughs*

MrsNineTales: Although, we did go through quite a few names. I admittedly rejected Peryite and Sheogorath. *laughs* No regrets!
