Here’s How ESO’s Developers Are Relaxing in Tamriel this Thanksgiving

11/21/2022

It’s the season to relax and recharge, so we asked some of the ESO development team how they like to chill out in Tamriel.

This Thanksgiving, ESO’s development team will be enjoying some much-needed rest and recuperation with friends, family, food and, of course, their favorite Tamrielic hero. If you’re unsure how to spend your recovery time in Tamriel this holiday season beyond the local tavern and guild halls, here’s some of the team’s favorite ways to relax in Nirn.

Decorating Houses

“When my friends and I have had our fill of adventures around Tamriel, we like to go back to one of our houses and decorate it with our spoils. Will we add it to our designated guildhall with access to training dummies and crafting stations? How about our summer home where we go to relax and enjoy bioluminescent waters while our pets wander about? Maybe it will go perfect for the haunted house we’re making for the Witches Festival or our totally not a cult cavern with the flaming skulls. With so many different furnishings and houses, the aesthetic possibilities are endless!”

Wendi Kirker—Technical Producer

Experimenting at the Outfit Station

“One of my favorite things to do to relax in ESO is creating unique outfits. I usually try to stick with a theme, either color, mood, or season. I like being able to mix and match between light and medium armors to create just the right look. Being able to tweak the colors and materials of the outfit adds another layer of personalization that I enjoy. As I find new motifs, I'll go through my saved looks and see if I can incorporate anything—but the icing on the cake for my outfit creation is if I can match the character with a mount and pet.”

It’s important to always adventure in style

Playing a Hand of Tribute

“I enjoy passing the time by playing Tales of Tribute against NPCs in other zones. (I'm not enough of a ToT master to play against real people!) The "Cards Across the Continent" daily (from Kishka the Broker in Gonfalon Gaming Hall) is my favorite way to further explore places I've been and discover new places I haven't been. I love seeing the little "Tribute Club" setups in the different Inns/Taverns, and the personable NPCs gathered around them. And playing against these NPCs encourages me to try new ToT strategies, to take my time reading the cards and not feel pressured to rush through my turn, and to absorb the cozy atmosphere of the tavern.”

Sneaking Around with Sticky Fingers

“I like to log onto my Magicka Nightblade and sneak around various towns stealing things. I enjoy it because it’s solo play, so I’m free to play at my own pace—whether I’m in the mood for a mad dash or something slow and methodical—and I can commit as much time as I wish. It’s fun seeing the new stealable items in each area, and it’s especially satisfying if I stumble across one of the lockboxes tied to a new zone’s achievements. It’s not the most efficient way to make gold, but between selling the bound treasures to a fence and laundering items such as furnishings or motifs to sell to other players, it adds a little more coin to my pockets, too. Just keep an eye out for guards!”

Coin is there for the taking, but don’t get caught!

Immersing in ESO’s stories

“To me, there is nothing more comforting than experiencing the lore-rich world of the Elder Scrolls! Currently, that means experiencing the impressive Clockwork City and seeing how its denizens live as inspired by Sotha Sil’s teachings. I’m discovering what it takes to survive within this synthetic world and all the things those who reside in Tamriel take for granted. Of course, I also get to interact with the mysterious forces of Oblivion, usually requiring less charisma and more muscle to handle. The Blackfeather Court is such a fun addition!”

Ethan Koltz—Art Producer

Making Blood Money

“When I have some downtime in ESO and want to relax, I like to make blood money. There is something soothing about breaking into someone’s home, stealing everything that isn’t nailed down, then using the Blade of Woe so I can loot the bodies. Is that creepy? Saying that out loud, it comes off as creepy. Regardless, there is an ebb and flow to skulking around a busy marketplace, pocketing some ill-gotten goods, busting open a few treasure chests, and leaving without anyone the wiser. And when I leave a fence with a pocket full of coin, it’ll be with a devilish smile on my face.”

Spacing Out in Shalidor’s Shrouded Realm

“I love spending time hanging out in Shalidor's Shrouded Realm, just watching the sky. The purples and blues make a perfect backdrop for organizing my items, checking up on quests, and just spacing out after adventuring. You can kind of get into a meditative state while watching the stars swirl around. If I feel I need to be a bit more productive, I’ll go add on to the large library I’ve built into the cave hall. There’s always room for more books!”

Harvesting Zones with a Good Book

To relax while playing The Elder Scrolls Online, I load an audiobook on my phone and head to a location with resource nodes. Khenarthi's Roost is a great place to wander, with enough nodes to keep me busy and a smattering of Alits. (These drop Rubedo Hide Scraps, which can be refined for a chance at Dreugh Wax!) I max out my Blacksmithing, Tailoring, Engraver, Woodworking, and associated Keen Eye passives for better and easier-to-spot resources, circle the beaches, and collect crafting materials while the audiobook holds my attention. It’s like reading with bonus loot! Don’t worry, audio team! I turn the book off and the sound up when focused on the game itself. ❤
