Become a dashing scoundrel or buccaneer king of legend as you explore Lost Depths’ two new dungeons on this International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
The Lost Depths dungeon DLC is now live on all platforms, and because today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, we wanted to ensure you are prepared to plunder its two new dungeons. To that end, here are five ways you can transform your characters into one of the Abecean Sea’s most dashing rogues—second only to Dhulef himself!
Adopt an Appropriate Title
There isn’t a rogue in Tamriel who doesn’t have a suite of dread-inducing pseudonyms and titles, and there’s a host of fun and fearsome options your own dashing scoundrel can adopt.
For starters, if you have access to the Dragonhold DLC, you can earn the “Pirate” title by hunting down and slaying four pirates in Southern Elsweyr (a part of Tamriel well-known for harboring all manner of people of disrepute).
If your vestige is the kind of rogue people are scared to leave alone with their silverware, the “Scoundrel” or “Master Thief” titles might better suit you, earned via various Thieves Guild achievements. Alternatively, those swashbuckling swordfighters might appreciate the more-than-apt “Duelist” title—earned by defeating 100 players in duels!
Finally, the Ascending Tide’s dungeon Shipwright’s Regret also rewards two nautical-themed titles: “Privateer” and “Shipwright.” Be warned, these titles are tied to the dungeon’s hardest achievements and won’t be easy for you and your crew to earn!
“Acquire” Swashbucking Styles
Of course, having a fearsome reputation is just the first step in creating your charming rogue. You also need to look the part, and thankfully, ESO has hundreds of unique styles you can mix and match at an Outfit Station. To get you started, check out the Topal Corsair style earned within Southern Elsweyr (also from the Dragonhold DLC), or the Outlaw style, which can be earned in Hew’s Bane (from the Thieves Guild DLC).
If you’re looking for a commanding cap, the medium helmet from the Silver Dawn style is sure to make your scoundrel the center of attention, and you might find some stylish Dreadsail items when looting gear from Shipwright’s Regret dungeon (and later be able to loot the style pages from the bosses).
You can find swashbuckling styles from all Tamriel
Lest we forget, not all pirates are dashing rogues. Some are cursed souls, such as those who reside within the Blackheart Haven dungeon. If you’d like to strike fear into the hearts of your enemies, the Pirate Skeleton monster set (earned by defeating the dungeon’s final boss) transforms your character into a skeleton while offering a hefty boost to your durability. Don’t worry, it’s not permanent! While you’re there, the Bone Pirate’s Tatters item set also provides a handy boost to Stamina while having a drink buff active, and what kind of swashbuckler doesn’t have a ready supply of grog?!
Develop Your Sticky Fingers and Silver Tongue
Being the devilish rogue you are, you’re bound to find yourself on the other side of the law—we don’t judge! To help navigate perilous legal waters, we recommend developing your Thieves Guild Skill Line (acquired via the Thieves Guild DLC). Passive abilities such as Swiftly Forgotten can help mitigate that ever-rising bounty your illicit deeds inspire, while Clemency allows you to talk your way out of an arrest (for now)—exactly what a smooth-talking scoundrel needs!
Rule number one: Don’t get caught!
Of course, you don’t need to talk your way out of a sticky situation if you don’t get caught, so we also recommend leveling up your Legerdemain Skill Line. You can improve your ability to successfully Pickpocket with the Light Fingers passive ability or reduce the Stamina cost of sneaking with Improved Hiding.
Furnish Your Own Pirate Hideaway
Once you’re able to walk the walk and talk the talk, it’s
always a good idea to have a hideaway (or two) where you can rest while you
wait for the heat to go down or store all your illicitly obtained hard-earned
goods.
For example, you can acquire the Pirate Banner by first earning the Famed Recruiter achievement and then purchasing the banner for 10,000 gold from Lozotusk within Stonetooth Fortress. Another must-have item for any pirate haven is a good fast boat. The Kothringi Tidal Canoe is the perfect lightweight craft for a quick raid or transport to your galleon of choice. You can acquire the Antiquities Lead for this item within Blackwood Daily quest reward boxes.
Being a pirate king means having an appropriately lavish palace, so we also recommend you acquire the Hunding’s Palatial Hall home. This magnificent major, located in the rogue-ridden city of Stros M’Kai, is the perfect getaway for the pirate who wishes to relax and enjoy their ill-gotten gains. Available for only 1,295,000 gold, it’s a steal—and no you can’t actually steal the manor, although how you get your hands on that kind of coin is up to you.
Plunder the Crown Store
Finally, you should keep an eye on the Crown Store for all manner of flamboyant costumes, adornments, hats, styles, and more. In fact, these dashing items are making a limited-time return just for this occasion!
- Swashbuckler Personality (available until 9/26)
- Pirate Skeleton Arms Pack (available until 9/26)
- Pirate Costume Pack (available until 9/26)
- Old Salt’s Chin Trinket Adornment (until 9/22)
Walk like a pirate with the Swashbuckler personality
In addition to the above, you can acquire the Ascending Tide DLC game pack at 33% off and enjoy even more daring adventures with Captain Za’ji and crew! Be sure to keep an eye on the Crown Store in the future, too. You never know when the ultimate pirate hideout, the Colossal Aldmeri Grotto (or an equally rogue-friendly home) will return*!
