Community Spotlight – The Loreseekers Podcast

03/14/2018

Jibbs and Kash host the all-new Loreseekers Podcast, an Elder Scrolls Online-themed show tailored towards players who are new or unfamiliar with the series' lore. We love this idea, so we took the time to ask them some questions about their show, podcasting, and the game in our latest Community Spotlight.

You've created and hosted a wide selection of podcasts for many different MMOs. What inspired you to start a new one for The Elder Scrolls Online?

Jibbs: In many ways this was for me a coming home of sorts. After a two-year break from creating shows, I came back to The Elder Scrolls Online and realized there was really only two podcasts currently available. I wanted to give gamers more options and create an Elder Scrolls experience I knew Kash and I could deliver.

Kash: Jibbs and I both love podcasting, especially when we're doing a show together. Since we both love everything about the Elder Scrolls and were playing ESO regularly, the next step of creating content via a podcast for the game quickly became our focus.

Why did you decide to create a show aimed at newer players or those who are unfamiliar with the Elder Scrolls history and lore?

Kash: We wanted to create a show that players could use as a resource for their gameplay and answer questions many players have, but may not know where to find the answers. The same goes for the lore of the game, as it is so deep and rich, you can easily not know what is going on around you. The lore of Elder Scrolls is just too amazing to miss, so we aim to help players understand it from the very beginning.

Jibbs: ESO is so vast and so rich in content and lore that we wanted to give players a good starting point. A place where new and returning players could gather and gain an understanding about the game they love, while sharing some laughs in the process.

You host your show live and in game--in actual in-game taverns! What does this live setting bring to your podcast?

Jibbs: I think the tavern brings a familiarity to the listeners. An authentic feel that all players can immediately relate to. When designing the show, we wanted to make sure we kept the feel of the Elder Scrolls in the podcast, so the tavern quickly became our central focus. Our motto is, “When real life pulls you away from Tamriel, let us bring Tamriel to you."

Kash: We both agreed that we wanted to create something special and different. Since much of the game revolves around adventure, we wanted our show to seem like two old friends getting together in various taverns as they travel the landscape of Tamriel. Similar to friends meeting up after a long week of work, we knew many players of the game could relate to having an ale and some good conversation to wind down and catch up.

Are you worried about players discovering you mid-show and trying to disrupt it?

Kash: Actually, I welcome it! We wanted to add a little mystery and perhaps an 'Easter Egg' of sorts to the show. Having the game running with our characters in a tavern while we record sets the mood. Not that we expect anyone to actively search for us, but if someone happens to stumble across Kash the Loreseeker or Jibbs the Loreseeker in a tavern in game, we will welcome the interaction! Each week it will be a different tavern!

Jibbs: Not worried at all! We welcome any of our listeners to come find us in game. Nothing brings us more joy than meeting our listeners!

While you've both played ESO previously, you have both also returned to the game fairly recently. What drew you back into it?

Jibbs: There is so much that The Elder Scrolls Online does right. The world feels alive, and the cities are always full of players. With the addition of One Tamriel, you can truly do what you want, when you want to do it. The Elder Scrolls Online has truly become the definition of what an MMORPG should be.

Kash: There are many reasons for my return to ESO. The game is a busy place with players everywhere, bustling cities, witty NPC's, beautiful landscapes, constant content, in-game events, and more story than any other MMO out there, hands down. When I play a game, I like to engross myself with the game, the music and the story whether I'm in game or out. ESO provides that experience for me, unlike many of the other MMO's out there I have tried.

Tell us about your in-game characters! What are your current mains in ESO and what kind of adventures do they typically have?

Kash: What's a “main" LOL? I'm a certified alt-a-holic and I'm loving every minute of it. Currently I'm focused on my Altmer Magicka Sorcerer, and I am melting faces across Tamriel. My absolute favorite activity is dungeon-delving, and as soon as possible, I will be taking my Sorcerer to Trials with our guild.

Jibbs: I currently main a Dark Elf Sorcerer. He enjoys long walks in ominous caverns, sharing his Blade of Woe with unsuspecting victims, and, of course, hanging out at the Rosey Lion with his lute!

You've both got a lot of experience in podcasting. What advice can you give to people thinking about creating their own podcast?

Jibbs: One of the first things I tell any person who is new to podcasting is to get yourself a good mic. Spending $100-$130 on a solid USB microphone will do wonders for you, and it will last until you're ready to upgrade.

Kash: For anyone interested in podcasting, I'll offer two suggestions. First, you have to LOVE the content you are talking about. Second, just be yourself when you're on the microphone. With these two aspects in mind, whatever you are covering will sound like an organic conversation to your listeners, instead of a scripted, awkward mess. Trust me, we've been there!

What are some other ESO podcasts that you recommend fans check out?

Kash: I am a big fan of both The Tales of Tamriel (shout out to Aggelos!) and the crew at Elder Scrolls Off The Record, both great shows and so well established. We're honored to be among them, creating content for this great game. If I may, I'm also a huge fan ShoddyCast's Elder Scrolls Lore Series on YouTube!

Jibbs: Tales of Tamriel and Elder Scrolls Off The Record. Both shows have carried the ESO torch in the podcasting realm for quite some time. We're honored to be among them and add another flavor to the Elder Scrolls pie we all love to eat!

Finally, where can people find the Loreseekers podcast online?
