The Elder Scrolls Online is so much more than just a game to many. It's a place to connect, spend time with loved ones, and build memories. For some, it's even where they found love. In celebration of Heart's Day, we're sharing with you some of our favorite stories of love in ESO.
The Legend of the Lovers
The original Heart's Day lore tells of the Legend of the Lovers, a story about two lovers name Polydor and Eloisa. The Legend of the Lovers has not yet appeared in an Elder Scrolls game, so it's a bit of a mystery. ESO player Feynn, a member of the Stormhaven Roleplay community, penned his version of the story. Here's a short excerpt:
“When the gods first made the world, before record and memory, Nirn was blessed by an eternal spring. Just like a young maiden in the springtime of her life, so Nirn was youthful too. The winds were mild and warm, rain fell from the heavens as gentle drops to feed the earth, and the sun shone with the warmth of a mother's smile. The earth was plentiful, and her children prospered.
It was in this time that Polydor and Eloisa lived, and loved. And their love was so pure that no other love was ever pure in comparison."

A Family's Love of ESO
Community member qwjr8989_ESO and his wife share a mutual love of ESO. The time they've spent exploring Tamriel together has had such an impact on their lives that it even inspired their baby girl's very special name.
“My wife and I have been playing ESO since one of the early beta tests. We enjoyed it so much together that we decided to name our baby 'Tamriel.' Tamriel is now 1 year old as of January 15th. If that's not love I'm not sure what is!"
Meant to Be
Sometimes love finds you while enjoying your favorite pastime. Community member William never expected he'd meet the love of his life in ESO. This is their story:
“I've been playing ESO since the day it came out. I never knew how connecting and immersive the experience would be, meeting and talking with people from all different walks of life. You form a little community of gamers that bond through the fundamental idea of a sense of togetherness and importance—all the while, enjoying the many fun and beautiful sights that Tamriel has to offer.
It was a day that I will never forget... you know those days where you are just down and can't feel the sun touch your skin through all the grey clouds? It was one of those days, until I heard the most beautiful voice in the world. She asked me about my name and I was immediately captivated by her voice. It's like I could feel her.
We started to get to know each other, talking more and exploring the world of Tamriel together! We fought world bosses, conquered Delves and ventured into deep and dark dungeons, completing them together. We quested through Cadwell's Silver, completing difficult puzzles that only she could help me solve. We fished together to pass the time and just talk about our fears and dreams and wants in this crazy thing we call life.
She has become more than I could ever imagine someone could mean to me. I have fallen deeply in love with her...her soul, her beautiful heart. And this Heart's Day, I want her to know how much I adore, love, and cherish her. I'm so glad that I have met her. She is my joy and my peace, my whole heart. If it wasn't for ESO, I never would have met the love of my life. Everything happens for a reason!"
Of Things to Come
For some, events in ESO foreshadow things to come in real life. ESO community member Miss_Bizz and her boyfriend tied the knot in Tamriel before taking the next step in their real-world relationship.
“My boyfriend asked me to play ESO, so we could do something together. We purchased the Imperial Edition (both of us) and married our very first characters. Now we're getting married in real life next year!"
Love at First Bite
A nice dinner is customary for a date night out. Of course, “dinner out" takes on a whole new meaning when you're a vampire couple in Tamriel. ESO community member orangeman57ub17_ESO shares how he and his partner became more than just adventuring companions.
“Despite being turned by different people, my friend and I became inseparable. We would play all day duo'ing dungeons, exploring new places, and we even enjoyed the same food. We decided it was eternal so we took the Pledge of Mara…and then murdered and feasted on the clergy. It was love at first bite."
And they aren't the only vampires to find love in Tamriel. ESO community member ShadowHvo shared this portrait of his loving vampire family, the Dreadhearts, painted by GrumpyVivec. From left to right: Belladonna Vetranu, Meinni Dreadheart, and Night Dreadheart.
Soulmates
This is the story of Tim (Nephilim_NL) and Rowanne (Wanny02), two Dutch ESO players who met their soulmate in Tamriel.
“So I've been playing ESO for quite a while now and enjoying every bit of it, mostly because I can play it with my girlfriend. She and I met in an all-Dutch guild we're in called Dutch Division. We have a Teamspeak server and this is how we connected.
We, Dutch Division, are rather active on Teamspeak, doing all sorts of fun stuff—we all connected so well! Thus came a real-life guild meet. Since she and I talked a lot during the day and even night, we both went, eager to see each other. And there she was, the most beautiful girl on earth! We've been in a relationship now for almost 4 months and already talking about moving in together! A beautiful thing happened, and I can say for sure that it wouldn't have happened without The Elder Scrolls Online.
I found my one and only soulmate whilst slaying Daedra. From the bottom of my heart, thank you." – Tim (Nephilim_NL)
A Lady and Her Knight
Daggerfall Covenant citizens Sir Jonn and Lady Aramina crossed paths when they both needed it most. Theirs is a tale of love, loss, and starting anew. Here is a short excerpt:
“It was a rainy day in the city of Northpoint. Sir Jonn was on his way to watch a tournament, seeking valiant prospects for his recently formed mercenary guild. He stood on the brinks of the arena, observing, as the swords clashed. A voice muttering words of contempt broke his immersion."

Scandalous Love
Orc couple Rory and Leigh shocked friends and family by eloping. It was a story fit for the Tamriel tabloids. You won't believe what they were hiding!
The scandalous acts of love don't end there. We received this confession from another Tamriel citizen:
“I married my boyfriend's male high elf tank, both of us in our dresses. We happily rode off into the entrance of a dungeon. It was a glorious union of kicking butt and taking numbers, of lazy days in the sewers making sure little baby blue and red players never made it out alive. Now I am not one to complain, and murdering these low-life reds and blues was fun, but I wanted more.
So I secretly went behind his back. I changed. It was exciting. It was new. It was a challenge. There was something wild about this Breton Templar...maybe it was his looks? Nah. Maybe it was his armour? That is possible. Maybe it was his ability to not die all the time. I had to have him. Every day I hung out with my hubby, but the moment he went offline I was by his side. Then one day we decided to tie the knot. To this day, he does not know that I tied the knot with his most trusted second in command. I'm not complaining—I get so much more when we all run together now." – Jennifer
An Ode to Sister Janise
Sometimes, love comes in the form of comfort and peace. Simeon Karpovich, a former Imperial soldier, wrote this short poem to honor Sister Janise of Pariah Abbey.
In the transepts of Pariah Abbey in Northern Stormhaven, a young Breton named Sister Janise compassionately tends to the injured and hurt. She is like a star in these troubled times; the darker the night, the brighter she shines.
What are my prayers but hollow breaths,
what are my dreams but hopes immure,
What are my fears that shadow each thought.
Sister Janise comfort me…
Under Azure's gaze she tends to wound,
With bandage, balm and words that soothe,
granting peace and serenity to tortured hearts.
Sister Janise comforts me…
Her smile as captivating as candle light,
Her voice enchanting like a moonlit tarn,
Her words uplifting as the morning sun.
Sister Janise comforts me…
From her warm heart dismay takes flight,
optimism a kindle that her smile ignites,
her grace an inspiration to every word I write.
Sister Janise comforts me….
What are my prayers now but promise and wish,
what are my dreams but reality yet touched,
what are my fears but another enemy to smite.
Sister Janise comforted me.

A Love that Spans Distance, Time, and Cats
The story of Faerveren and Sarinteal spans four years, two countries, two cats, and a lot of roleplay and budding love in between. Their story, both in Tamriel and real-life, has a very happy ending.
"For the tale in Tamriel, my character Kaetlyn Faer'veren was a traitor to the Aldmeri Dominion throne, part of the Veiled Heritance movement, and his character Sarinteal Ralleidril a Thalmor 'Lord Archon'.
They had a long, rich history before this however. As a Thalmor agent, he had been instructed to uncover the plots of the Veiled Heritance, and upon reunion he was beguiled by Kaetlyn's newfound maturity (there is about a 100 year age difference!) and her professionalism, and so he employed her as his personal assistant.
Back in the real world, throughout all of this we had both gone through relationship breakups and found solace and comfort in each other's company. We had met for a long weekend when I travelled back to Lonon (I was living in Austria where I had moved to be with my then-boyfriend and roleplay partner) for a short visit to see some family. Months of roleplay went on and our characters Kaetlyn and Sarinteal formed a serious relationship to last.
What is fun throughout this are the small similarities between our characters and our own lives and their interactions. My character Kaetlyn had a child from a previous relationship, and I had to go through the arduous process of moving my cat back to the UK, who I had got over in Austria in a different relationship! Morwinyon's character himself was even inspired partly by my then-kitten! Here he is looking very happy (red colour Burmese pedigree on the left.) And, when we moved in together we got another kitten, named Bagheera (on the right.)
I am nearing the end of our tale so far, but the story is set to continue so far in the 'real' world, for just as Kaetlyn and Sarinteal were blessed by Mara's love, so were we also blessed! We got engaged on Christmas day in 2015 and are intending to get married in two or three years!! So Elder Scrolls Online, you have our love and our thanks for reuniting us and fulfilling both of our lives by bringing us back together!"

The Best Gaming Partner
Couples that play together, stay together. For many couples, playing ESO together is the perfect activity. What better duo partner than your significant other? That's pretty hard to beat!
Here are what a few of our real-life couple teams had to say:
“We are a real life couple who have played ESO together since launch. We have done everything together from Skyshards and lore books to every dungeon." – Mark
“Me and my girlfriend @tecsiederp explore together quite often in ESO :) I'm the Argonian, she's the Dunmer." – @Akselmo
“I've been married to my real-life husband on ESO since opening weekend. The XP boost is nice, but people always laugh when we say we're married. They say 'Oh, you got the rings of Mara?' And we're like 'Well, yes, but we're married in real life too.'" – Falon Coffman
“I play ESO with my real-life husband, and it's the dream come true we've wanted for years! In the past we would play shared characters in Oblivion and Skyrim, with the game up on the TV – we'd take turns...BUT NOW!" – Pheefs
“My main toon and my husband's main toon got married right after we got the game and we've been playing ever since!!!" – @HisEeyore07
“My boyfriend and I have played through the game together from the start. Our journey started around July 2015, and continues to this day! We have recently completed Cadwell's Gold, and both earned the achievements/titles of 'Tamriel Hero,' 'Savior of Nirn' and 'Explorer.'" – Glaiceana
