This week, the honored Sons of Yaztromo step into the spotlight to tell their tale.
Under today's spotlight is the guild Fils de Yaztromo, created almost twenty years ago. Tireless, they stride across Tamriel and hold high the standard of Daggerfall. They are a true army made for war, but not above a few Trials if the chance presents itself.
Do you think your guild should be showcased next? Just answer our questions – or even your own – in this forum thread. Make sure to add a few nice screenshots and we may feature your guild in the future!
What is your guild's name? Does that name have a special history or significance?
Les Fils de Yaztromo (The Sons of Yaztromo); that name is derived from Gereth Yaztromo, an old mage and wise man, whose son was raised by mysterious beings in a mysterious forest. He was raised in wisdom, with a warrior spirit and respect for his opponents. Throughout his life, he strived to be guided by nothing but wisdom, respect and willpower. When he became an adult, he decided to walk the many mysterious lands to spread the wisdom he had been taught by those unknown beings. He is maybe the most powerful mage of all Allansie, and many were his pupils over the years…
When was your guild formed? Tell us the story of how the guild came to be.
We are one of the oldest guilds still in activity on MMORPGs: founded in 1997, this will be our 19th year.
Our guild was born when a few players met in the beta of some game that never reached success. Though nice and enjoyable, the game is mostly remembered for bringing together a few players who kept the same hours.
After playing together for a while, we garnered a solid reputation for PvP, and were even invited to a press meeting on the topic. That gave us some notoriety on the Net. As I said, the game flopped, but in the meantime a website was about to become the gaming client GOA (a subsidiary of France Telecom, now called Orange) to launch the famous game T4C (The 4th Coming). Our guild was already created - we had many motivated members - so we decided to migrate en masse to that game. Our first name, « Les Pacificateurs » (“The Peacemakers") soon felt out of place on T4C, with its rich background and ever present legends. We then opted for another name with a story that fit there. The name and its backstory were soon agreed upon.
What alliance has your guild sworn fealty to?
The choice was made not for the guild, but for the alliance (“Vae Soli," now called “Alliances"). One more vote and we would have pledged ourselves to the Dominion. In the end, we were taken in by the Covenant.
Why did you choose that alliance?
Ebonheart was out of the question, because a big alliance was being set up there right at the launch, and we wanted to face them in Cyrodiil. The choice was brought to a vote of the many guilds in our alliance.
How many members does your guild currently have?
We have a pool of about 80 people. Since it's summer and everyone is taking vacations and enjoying the sun, we've seen a little lower participation, but we expect to see a resurgence come fall!
Does your guild have a website?
What times and days is the guild most active?
Although our primary activity is during rush hour (from 7:30/8PM to about midnight, Paris time), a dozen of us log in during the day.
What languages or countries do your members span?
All our members speak French, and are from France, Belgium and Switzerland.
What activities in ESOTU do your members enjoy doing together most?
Both PvE and PvP. The most war-like players play PvP each night, but we also do Trials on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
What does your guild focus on in-game? Do your members prefer delving dungeons together, fighting for keeps in Cyrodiil, roleplaying in the taverns, crafting and trading, or a combination?
Playing together is the very essence of a guild. We enjoy all the content the game offers: 4-man dungeons, arenas, Trials and Cyrodiil.
What makes your guild unique?
We are a very old MMORPG guild, and we know many French guilds and are feared in PvP.
Is your guild part of a larger alliance of guilds? Why did you join them?
From the start, we were allied with guilds we already knew and wanted to play with. At launch, that alliance was called “Vae Soli," and was later renamed to make running the guild easier. It is now just “Alliances."
Does your guild ever host special events? If so, tell us about them!
We approach guild events with an old-fashioned spirit, and run PvP or PvE without frills. Our evenings are made special by the members.
What is your favourite or most memorable moment as a guild so far in ESOTU?
There are many to remember: for PvE, the end of all the Trials we ran. For PvP, the “Braveheart" event or the challenges issued at launch by our nemesis, the alliance “Indicible."
Does your guild secretly (or not so secretly) follow a specific Daedric Prince? If so, which one?
None. As a guild, we serve only our kingdom, and live only for our members and allies.
After a long day of adventuring, where does your guild enjoy gathering to wind down?
On our voice chat, to… well, chat :)
Tell us five fun facts about your guild.
In the course of our adventures, some players have earned nicknames: “Scrollman," “Wingless DK," “Unique tabard maker"…
Our determination to go through the door of a tower to assault the occupants before the tower was ours.
We once asked a member to put 2 pots of oil in the 4 corners of a room.
And we had many hysterical laughter sessions on our voice chat.
