Guild Spotlight – Les Fiers à Bras (The Swashbucklers)

06/24/2015

Our latest guild spotlight shines on a guild that values sharing adventures, and they hope you do, too. Here come the Fiers à Bras.

In our guild spotlight today, the Fiers à Bras take center stage. A small guild with an epicurean, easy-going attitude, you will have no trouble going on a quest with them or spending many a quiet night in idle chat and deep conversation.

Would you like to see your guild featured in a future edition as well? Just answer our interview questions in this thread. Don't forget to also include some nice screenshots showcasing your guild!

Les Fiers à Bras

What is your guild's name? Does that name have a special history or significance?

It gives us great pleasure to introduce Les Fiers à Bras (literally “Proud men with arms!") Why? Well, because we are proud and we do have arms. No arm, no foul.

In all seriousness, we were looking for a name to reflect our ideals: easy-going, family-friendly, with a sense of humor.

When was your guild formed? Tell us the story of how the guild came to be.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…. After many years scouring various MMOs, Vokr was a young Jedi on SWTOR, looking for friends to play with. When he found no guild he could relate to, spirit-wise and timetable-wise, he decided to co-form a guild with a real-life friend under the name Nouvelle Ère.

After a while, Vokr sought new horizons to slay vile dragons on Guild Wars 2. There he was joined by some members of the SWTOR guild and real-life friends. And this was the true birth of the Fiers à Bras! We managed to form a guild with strong values of a friendship that go beyond the digital world. Many real-life meets have taken place all around France, and even beyond including Switzerland, Luxemburg, and Belgium—and baby Fiers à Bras are not excluded. (We have started surveillance on the happy couple.)

On the day when ESOTU was announced, since we are among the legions who loved Morrowind, we answered the call. And here we are—Vokr uprooted the guild and his friends once more. His goal was to keep the spirit of camaraderie, and keep in touch with other members of the guild, so Vokr formed an ESOTU section of the guild rather than forming a whole new guild from scratch. This led to meeting many new people, in the game then in the real world.

What alliance has your guild sworn fealty to?

The very best, of course! The Daggerfall Covenant battles against the evil hairballs, handbags, salad-eaters and other brainless barbarians! Although truth be told, any race is welcome within the guild.

Why did you choose that alliance?

Despite what the little ponies on our forum might lead you to believe, we do not condone unicorn-caring, even when the carers are cannibals! And the Ebonheart Pact rang too close to the previous instalment of The Elder Scrolls series. We wanted a breath of fresh air, and to return to where it all started: Daggerfall. Ah, precious Daggerfall!

How many members does your guild currently have?

We have about twenty active members, which results in between three and eight members logged in at any given time in the evening.

Does your guild have a website?

We have a very pretty forum—it's quite simple, but with ponies on it and a lot of useful information for everyone: http://lfab.probb.fr/

What times and days are the guild most active?

There is always someone logged in during the evenings. During the day (weekend included), members are a bit more scarce. Between work and time-consuming activities or families (yes, we do have geeky moms and pops), free time is at a premium.

What languages or countries do your members span?

The ESOTU part of the guild only consists of French-speakers (France, Switzerland, etc.)

What activities in ESOTU do your members enjoy doing together most?

That is an easy one: talking, chatting, laughing, and philosophical debates with Sheogorath.

We schedule three outings each week: On Mondays and Wednesdays we do PvE/Dungeons/Craglorn, depending on the mood. On Thursdays, we partake in PvP. But if there are enough members online, we have no qualms about unscheduled activities!

What does your guild focus on in-game? Do your members prefer delving dungeons together, fighting for keeps in Cyrodiil, roleplaying in the taverns, crafting and trading, or a combination?

Sitting next to the fire and singing Hugues Aufray's songs! Or sitting in a tavern and singing bawdry songs.

Well, actually, we hate sitting down! Each and every one of us has different priorities, but our favorite thing is playing together—be it chatting on Teamspeak without doing anything particular, running dungeons, or crafting for another guild member.

What makes your guild unique?

We don't like people…ha, fooled you! We have no intention of being a competitive guild, speeding through the whole game in two weeks and wearing the carcass of Molag Bal as a helmet or gathering 499 members. We all have things to do in real-life, and the game has to be a constraint-free zone. Therefore, we have no minimum playing-time and no mandatory Teamspeak participation (except for guild outings and an introduction when you are recruited.)

Our rules are simple: be polite and have fun! If you want to play alone somewhere and not say hi or goodbye, we are not the right place for you. But what makes it quite unique is this: we love spending time together.

Is your guild part of a larger alliance of guilds? Why did you join them?

Some of us are part of the Alliances team for all things PvP. We joined forces with them to be more effective. Yes, it takes a lot of killing to craft handbags and fur coats for the ladies, so it is best to hunt in packs!

Does your guild ever host special events? If so, tell us about them!

In-game, we cannot, because of conflicting schedules. But everyone's opinion matters, and we hold guild meetings on a regular basis. Communication is key! Some of our members are part of the Adepts of Sheogorath guild, role-play-wise.

Besides that, we all dream of hosting one complete real-life party, but that has proven too complicated for now. Still, we think about it a lot!

What is your favorite or most memorable moment as a guild so far in ESOTU?

Our first dungeon outing, in the very first days of the game. That was our first time actually playing together. We did not even finish the dungeon—we were laughing so hard because of all our dying: no healing, no tank, no skill! We were a mess!

Does your guild secretly (or not so secretly) follow a specific Daedric Prince? If so, which one?

Depends who you ask. Me, myself, or I? Because if you think you are talking to me while I am listening, or the way I see myself when you think about me.

We have Sheogorath-lovers, but we do not know it yet, or we forgot. Does it change anything for you? Or for us?

After a long day of adventuring, where does your guild enjoy gathering to wind down?

We are pretty wound down as it is, thanks!

Tell us five fun facts about your guild.

  • Some of us are better than others at seeing treasure chests. So as soon as one of us spots it, the race is on! Was there a world boss right next to it? Doesn't matter, have to get that chest!
  • Sometimes one of our dear female players gets lost following the wrong group in PvE or PvP, or gets surprised when we call a charge on Teamspeak, but the group she is with stays put. It happens so often we are starting to wonder if it is intentional.
  • One wonderful PvP memory when we were assaulting an enemy fort, our group got split up and eviscerated. All except for one of us, that is, who hid away (so brave.) And he was fine until the enemy bus hit him—all at once, fifty bloodthirsty enemies ganged up against one low-level character. We were picking up the pieces for a week before he could resurrect.
  • While walking about the lovely Craglorn countryside, we decided to turn in quests in Belkarth. Suddenly, a glowing portal appeared. Infinitely naive, one of our members decided to touch it (his mama never taught him not to touch things you find in the street,) which led to three waves of Daedra falling on us. Four adventurers were definitely not ready for this!
  • To apply for a position in the guild, you have to sign a paper on the dotted line, in the lower right corner of our guild charter (such a naughty word: charter; should be four letters.) It's one simple message on the forum that you have to agree to during your introduction, but many recruits asks how to sign on the dotted line. That's an easy one, though: use a permanent marker on the screen and mail it to us!

If people are interested in joining your guild, who should they contact?

If you have any questions or want to initiate a guild association, contact one of the following people in-game: Vokr, highland13, @Eleyone, @Ericstoff

For those who want to join up, you can apply on the forum (after reading the paper you need to sign in the lower right corner; draw a cross if you cannot write.)
